I’m an expert in child development, early learning, and media environments. I’ve worked for many years to extend the reach of organizations, curricula, and intellectual property via trans-media methods in order to best help children learn, and to support the adults who are working with those children.

Currently, I am the Educational Outreach Advisor on the team of Wonder Why Consulting, taking pride in my continued media and technology consulting efforts within the field of early childhood research. In addition to this work, I am an advisor for PlayPattern, a maker and technology education consulting company, and a research fellow for Knology, a collective of scientists, writers, and educators dedicated to studying complex social issues, and serve as Principal investigator for the NSF/AISL-funded project Authoring Children’s STEM Stories for Climate Risk Preparedness.

My investment in the power of new media, especially within today’s increasingly digital age, has led me to service a variety of activities-focused advising opportunities around educational outreach and community engagement, including: Cartoon NetworkAl Roker ProductionsHome Plate Entertainment, and  Iris Sroka. Profesional consultations also include ongoing projects and collaborations with WGBH, -Boston, Mashopolis - Twin Cities PBS,  ABF Creative - affirmations podcast development, Sesame Workshop, and Netflix Junior-Netflix Animation, LLC.

Since I began my studies in early childhood education, I've been fascinated by how children learn and the role media in all its forms plays in helping them learn. Connecting children and educational content is just one thread of my career.  Throughout my life, I’ve connected people working in different disciplines who share a goal of helping children learn.

Most recently, I was Vice-President, Children, Youth and Digital Media Literacy Initiatives at the Hispanic Information & Telecommunications Network (HITN), the largest Spanish language public television station in the US, reaching 44 million households. Prior to that I was Vice-President, Educational Partnerships and Community Outreach at HITN Learning. At HITN, I co-created the Early Learning Collaborative, that produced research- based, engaging transmedia learning resources for three- and four-year-old children, their teachers and their families.

Prior to joining HITN, I served as Instructional Leadership and School improvement Coach in Detroit and Rhode Island for 3 years through Teachscape, a company that provided comprehensive professional development services incorporating web-based video case studies of standards-based teaching communities of learners. I helped teachers of pre-K to 2nd grade children broaden and deepen children’s thinking, creating a solid foundation for learning in 3rd grade and beyond. Before that, I ran Cito’s US based outreach coordinator for a field test that piloted its Piramide Approach to early childhood education in Atlanta, Georgia and Birmingham, Alabama. Cito is one of the major educational measurement and assessment companies in Europe. .

I’ve been a Senior Consultant and Adviser to many educational children’s TV and media programming organizations, including Children’s Television Workshop (now Sesame Workshop), PBS-CPB Ready To Learn and others. During my 3 years at Sesame Workshop, I was Director of Global Outreach, helping ensure that Sesame Workshop’s international co-production outreach activities were successful, especially in post-conflict countries like Kosovo and Jordan/Palestine/Israel.

In addition to my extensive experience in media and educational organizations, I’ve worked in philanthropic entities, including being Director of Grants & Programs for the Center for Educational Programs--a Foundation of the Milken Families. Over 7 years, I co-created LDI, a leadership initiative supporting projects in 10 NYC and 10 LA schools that improved student engagement and principal-driven school improvements.  I also served as staff to the foundation’s Milken Scholars Program.

My work in teacher preparation and child development includes my role as a faculty member at. Montclair State University, University of the District of Columbia, Lehman College and Pacific Oaks College. I have written a number of scholarly papers and articles and contributed to publications such as Teaching and Leading with Emotional Intelligence with scholar and writer, Peggy Daly Pizzo. I have served on a number of advisory boards; see my LinkedIn profile to see them. Currently, through an initiative of the NAEYC Black Caucus Interest forum, I serve as one of its mentors,

Early in my career, I led Information Services at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which laid the groundwork for my career in so many ways. My experience as Interim Executive Director of the Coalition for Children and Youth gives me great empathy and understanding of what my coaching clients encounter as Directors of pre-K and early childhood education centers.

I received my PhD in Early Childhood, Elementary Education and Child Psychology from Indiana State University. I have a Master of Arts in Child and Human Development from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA and received my Bachelors of Music Education from DePauw University School of Music
